WHO IS THE SINGER OF PRAISE AND WORSHIP?

People sing for different reasons, including:
(i) Recreation.
(ii) Expressing emotions.
(iii) Comfort.
(iv) Teaching.
(v) Delivering a message.
What is Praise?
Praise is the act of declaring the
greatness, goodness, power, and mighty deeds of God through words, songs, joy,
or other acts of honoring Him. Praise often focuses on what God has done, is
doing, and His promises to His people.
The Bible says:
And again:
"Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; His greatness is unsearchable." (Psalm 145:3)
These scriptures show that praise
involves declaring God's works, His goodness, His faithfulness, and His
greatness with gratitude, joy, and reverence.
What is Worship?
Jesus said:
"But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to worship him." (John 4:23)
In the vision of heaven we see heavenly beings saying:
"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts." (Isaiah 6:3)
And again:
"Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty." (Revelation 4:8)
These scriptures show that worship is a response of the heart that recognizes God for who He is; that is, for His holiness, His majesty, His greatness, and His divinity.
The Difference Between Praise and Worship
In short:
Praise proclaims God for what He has
done, what He is doing, and His greatness (Psalm 150:2; Psalm 145:3).
Worship honors God for who He is;
for His holiness, majesty, and greatness (John 4:23–24).
Praise is often accompanied by joy
and happiness (Psalm 47:1).
Worship is often accompanied by
reverence, humility, and devotion (Hebrews 12:28).
However, praise and worship are not
contradictory but complementary in the life of a believer. Often believers
begin with praise, proclaiming the works and greatness of God, and later enter
into deeper worship as they contemplate His holiness, majesty, and presence.
WHO IS THE SINGER OF PRAISE AND
WORSHIP?
He is a man who decided to dedicate
himself to serving God through singing.
He is a person who serves God
through singing with the purpose of leading people in praise and worship and
preparing an environment for people to enter into the presence of God through
praise and worship.
Here we see that David appointed special people for the work of praising God and thanking God.
Here we learn that if you want to be a Praise and Worship Singer, you must be willing to dedicate yourself to that purpose and accept that service with all your heart.
BASIC QUALITIES OF A PRAISE AND
WORSHIP SINGER
(ii) He is a person who leads people to worship God in Spirit and truth ;
The Praise and Worship singer sings not for appearance or to please men, but in the Spirit and toward God.
If we look at the word here in John 4:23, we learn that GOD loves those who worship Him in Spirit and truth, and on that basis the Singer of praise and worship should know that he is one of the people who leads people to worship GOD in Spirit and truth.
(iii) He is a person with a heart that loves worship.
(One who loves worship and humbles himself before God at all times). It is not because you are ordained to serve. It is not because you are given the opportunity to sing, that you are responsible for fulfilling the duty. No!
A Praise and Worship singer must have a heart of love for worship from within. A heart of love for worship makes one seek God for His own sake and not for the sake of being seen before men.
Looking at you other references in:
Matthew 15:8 says;
"These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." What we learn here is that we only honor GOD with our words, but when GOD looks at our hearts, we are very far from Him. This does not please GOD and makes GOD angry and decides to let the Singer do the ministry with his mind, now if GOD lets us use our minds without fellowship with Him, will we truly be able to please Him?
Thus, a Praise and Worship Singer must have a heart that truly loves worship, not just with words but from the depths of the heart.
God looks at the heart more than He looks at a person's outward appearance. Therefore, it is important to know that God knows every servant of His who walks before Him even before He tells him anything, for He searches hearts and knows the inner truth of man.
(iv) He is a person led by the Spirit of God.
Among the main characteristics of a Praise and Worship Singer is being led by the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit guides a person in a way that pleases God.
In order for you to serve well in a Praise and Worship group and be an instrument used to prepare an environment for people to enter into the presence of God, you must be led by the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit helps the Praise and Worship Singer to make his ministry go very smoothly.
The Holy Spirit will help you:-
(a) Leading people into the presence of God.
(b) Touching people's hearts and serving them.
(c) Bringing the presence of God into worship.
(d) Untying the bonds of oppressors to people while singing.
(e) He will use your breath and words as you sing to destroy the intentions of the enemy and set free those who are oppressed by the enemy.
(f) He is a person who purifies himself.
The biggest problem with many singers is not being pure.
Many think that because they sing well or serve at the altar, that is enough. But God does not call His servants to have gifts only, but also to have a life of holiness.
A Praise and Worship singer must be pure in his conduct, his words, and his actions. He must avoid sin and everything that can destroy his fellowship with God.
The Word of God says:
"But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct."
(1 Peter 1:15)
David was a man of God, but when he sinned he repented and sought to restore his fellowship with God. This teaches us that the Praise and Worship Singer should live a life of repentance and purify himself daily.
Holiness is very important for someone who stands before God and before people in ministry.
(v) Be disciplined and willing to learn and be taught.
The biggest problem with many singers is their unwillingness to learn and be taught. Many think that because they have been singing for a long time, they have nothing more to learn.
But it doesn't have to be that way. Even if you've been singing for years, you still need to learn more and be taught. Even if you have great talent, it's important to continue to receive guidance, advice, and teachings that will help you grow in ministry.
Sometimes you may find that someone has great singing talent, but lacks the discipline to study. This can hinder their growth in ministry.
Learning is very important for every Praise and Worship Singer. We learn every day, and the more we learn, the more we grow in ministry.

Here we see that those who were serving in this ministry of praising GOD They were taught and given instructions so that they could serve God correctly.
Another thing that is important to note here is that the total number of people who agreed to stay together and study together was 288, which in these times is not very easy to find people who volunteer in such large numbers.
We have also learned another lesson that having the talent to sing is important, but practicing or learning is more important.
The service also needs to be well-organized and the preparation cannot be done by one person alone, there must be time to sit down and plan and guide each other and find a common direction that will make the service run smoothly and bring good results.
(vi) The singer should sing with the aim of glorifying God and not seeking praise for himself.
This is a very important thing for every Praise and Worship Singer to understand and consider.
But sometimes after the service people may come up to you and say:
"Servant, you sang very well today, congratulations."
The question to ask yourself is this:
How will you respond?
Many people respond in various ways such as:-
"Glory to Jesus."
"It is the grace of God."
"Don't thank me, thank Jesus."
"God has done it."
"Don't give me the glory, give it to Jesus."
These responses are not bad. However, they can sometimes leave different interpretations in the hearts of the people who give the compliments.
Remember that some may interpret these responses as meaning that you do not value what they have said. Others may feel as if you have ignored what they have seen in your ministry.
Therefore, a Praise and Worship singer should be careful in how he responds to compliments he receives.
The Bible also shows examples of people who were praised for the good works they did.
In 1 Corinthians 16:17-18, the Apostle Paul commended Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus for their contribution to the ministry.
Also in Philippians 2:19-20, Paul commended Timothy for his faithfulness and his heart for caring for God's people.
Also in Matthew 25:21, we see the Lord saying:
"Well done, good and faithful servant."
So we see that being praised is not a bad thing.
The important thing is how a person receives those compliments and how they continue to remain humble before God.
Examples of good answers that can be given are:-
• "Thank you; we are very grateful."
• "Thank you very much for the compliments; we thank God for helping us."
• "We are grateful; continue to pray for us."
• "We are grateful; God has acted."
• "Thank you for recognizing what God is doing."
• "We are grateful; it is God who has enabled us to do this."
• "Thank you for the compliments and continue to lift us up in prayer."
Such good answers build good relationships with people and reflect the good character of a servant of God.
Through your positive responses, you will also attract many to your ministry and benefit others.
But you must also know that good answers can give you favor with people, because a person's speech can give them a certain kind of favor in the eyes of people.
Despite all of this, the Praise and Worship Singer must guard against the desire to seek praise from men.
When he starts singing for the purpose of being praised, recognized, or praised by people, he may run the risk of:
• Pride.
• Self-praise.
• Showing off.
• Doing things to be seen.
• Forgetting God.
• Disappointing others.
It is important to remember that every gift, ability, and grace to minister comes from God.
No one should boast about their talent as if they had achieved it through their own efforts.
So I really want us to know that the main goal of the Praise and Worship Singer is to glorify God, make heaven rejoice, and come down to meet His people in worship.
( vii) Be humble.
Let us remember the Word of God says:
"God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." (1 Peter 5:5)
A Praise and Worship singer should accept that every blessing given to him comes from God. The more God elevates him in ministry, the more humble he should become.
If the Singer is not careful, he may start :
Looking for human qualities.
Seeing oneself as better than others.
Competing at the altar.
Seeking fame and recognition more than the service itself.
These things may seem small at first, but later they can ruin the singing ministry and take away the real purpose of serving God.
(viii) Must have a talent for singing and be willing to learn.
Many people pride themselves on their singing talent. It is true that talent is important in Praise and Worship ministry, but talent alone is not enough to make someone a great Singer.
A person may have great talent for singing, but still need to be taught, directed, and guided in order to grow in ministry.
Gifting is a good starting point, but the development of ministry also depends on a person's willingness to learn and be taught.
Now ask yourself:
Are you only talented at singing, or do you also have a heart for learning?
There are many people with great talents, but because they do not want to be taught or guided, they fail to reach the level they could have reached in ministry.
Their talents are great, but their growth is limited because they do not accept being taught.
Being taught helps a person:
• Improve its capabilities.
• Correcting his mistakes.
• Expand his/her understanding of ministry.
• Grow spiritually and practically.
It is important to remember that:
Talent is important, but practice is more important.
However, practice alone is not enough. There must be someone to guide you, listen to you, advise you, and correct you when necessary.
That's where a person is built and becomes a better Singer.

(ix) Be a person who respects the altar and avoids mixing altars.
The Praise and Worship singer needs to understand that not every altar is God's altar.
Every altar has its own foundation, vision, procedures, and service orientation. Therefore, it is important for the Singer to know where he serves and the altar he oversees.
In the Bible we see the example of Elijah and the prophets of Baal. They both had their altars, but God only answered Elijah's altar. The altar of Baal received no response.
This teaches us that not every altar named after a Christian religion or faith has the approval of God.
A Praise and Worship singer should be very careful not to confuse the altar of God with altars that have no foundation in God.
Mixing up the altar can destroy a person's ministry, destroy their fellowship with God, and even take them away from the direction God intended for them.
The Word of God also warns us that not everyone who says:
"Lord, Lord..."
will enter the Kingdom of God.
There are those who will claim they did many things in the name of God, but they did not walk in His will.
Therefore, a Praise and Worship Singer must have spiritual discernment, knowing where he is serving, with whom he is collaborating, and what the foundation of the altar he is presiding over is.
The altar of God should be respected, protected, and maintained in its spiritual purity.
Avoiding altar mixing is part of wisdom, obedience, and faithfulness to the God who called you into ministry.
(x) Be a reader of the Word of God.
The Word of God is spiritual food for every servant of God.
A Praise and Worship singer should be a reader of the Word of God in order to continue to grow spiritually and increase his understanding.
The benefits of studying God's Word are many, including:
• Developing spiritual awareness.
• Building trust.
• Gives you insight into how to conduct yourself in everyday life and ministry.
• To help the Singer lead people to a correct understanding of God.
A singer who diligently studies the Word of God has a good foundation for knowing God and serving with greater wisdom.
(xi) He should acknowledge that he is a servant of God and not a stage performer.
A Praise and Worship singer should realize that he is a servant of God first before he is a singer. And therefore he should be very careful even in the way he serves at the altar.
The way he sings and the gestures he shows when he sings can distinguish him or compare him to worldly artists. Remember that a singer when he is at the altar is not an artist but a servant providing service, again the service of serving the hearts of people and making people meet GOD through that way of singing.
His ministry is not for show, seeking fame, or building his own name, but for glorifying God and serving His people.
When he stands at the altar, he should see himself as a servant charged with the responsibility of helping people draw closer to God.
Therefore, a Praise and Worship Singer should not see himself as just a stage artist, but as a servant called by God for a special purpose.
PRAISE AND WORSHIP SINGER PREPARATION BEFORE THE SERVICE
Singing to God is not just about having a beautiful and attractive voice. For a person to be a complete and capable Singer to serve God, he must be prepared and molded to fulfill his calling effectively.
Service is not built in a day or in a short period of time. The preparation and maintenance of a servant is gradual and continues as one grows in service.
Now ask yourself:
Are you willing to receive these adjustments so that you can be agood instrument for God?
Some people think that singing is just responding to and memorizing the words of songs. But the truth is that Praise and Worship ministry is much more than that.
Like other servants of God, singers also encounter various trials in their lives and ministries.
Overcoming these temptations is part of spiritual growth and maturity in ministry. But if temptations are not handled properly, they can affect the ministry, conduct, and even the calling of a servant of God.
That is why it is important for a Praise and Worship Singer to be built on solid foundations that will help him stand firm in his ministry.
Among the important things to consider are the following:
(i) He should have a life of holiness
Holiness is a very important foundation for a Praise and Worship Singer.
The Word of God says:
1 Peter 1:15-16
"But as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct; because it is written, 'You shall be holy, for I am holy.'"
A life of holiness helps a servant to be close to God and maintain his fellowship with the Lord.
Other scriptures to study about holiness are:
Leviticus 20:7
Leviticus 19:2
Leviticus 11:44
Hebrews 12:14
1 Thessalonians 4:3-4
2 Corinthians 7:1
2 Timothy 2:19-21
A Praise and Worship singer should strive to live a life that pleases God, because powerful ministry is built on the foundation of a good fellowship with God.
(ii) Be disciplined and obedient
In the body of Christ and in God's ministries, we encounter leaders of all kinds.
Sometimes you may find yourself being led by someone younger than you or with less experience than you think you have.
However, for ministry to be successful, it is important to learn to obey God-ordained authorities.
A Praise and Worship singer must learn not only to lead, but also to be led.
He/She should accept instructions and service schedules without unnecessary complaints.
He also needs to accept correction when he makes a mistake.
If you make a mistake in your voice, in the words of a song, or in the performance of your ministry, accept correction so that you can continue to grow.
Good discipline is also seen in the following things:
• A good singer:
• Attends practice.
• Respects leaders.
• Respects worship time.
• Follows service instructions.
• Accepts correction when necessary.
Without discipline, it is very difficult to build a strong and reliable ministry.
(iii) He must have a good fellowship with the Holy Spirit so that he can serve God's people.
Praise and Worship ministry is a spiritual ministry. For this reason, the Praise and Worship Singer needs to have a good relationship with the Holy Spirit in order to carry out his ministry effectively.
The Holy Spirit helps the servant in various areas of ministry.
Among the things that the Holy Spirit helps the Singer are:
• Choosing the right songs.
• Leading worship effectively.
• Touching the hearts of the people being served.
• Helping people enter into the presence of God.
• Directing the flow of worship as God desires.
The stronger a person's fellowship with the Holy Spirit, the more effective their ministry will be for God's people.
(iv) Be humble.
Humility is a very important quality for a Praise and Worship Singer.
Lack of humility can breed pride, arrogance, and thinking oneself better than others.
A good singer must learn to remain humble even when he is greatly used by God, praised, or appears to have great success in ministry.
When a person is humble, it is easier to be taught, adjusted, and continue to grow in ministry.
Remember that every gift, every ability, and every success in ministry comes from God.
Therefore, the Praise and Worship Singer must learn to rely on God and remain humble before Him and before people.
Talent is a natural ability that a person can be born with or develop through practice and personal effort.
A gift is a special ability or grace given by God for the purpose of serving people and building up the Church through the work of the Holy Spirit.
Although talent and gift can often work together, not every talent is a gift, and not every gift is based on natural talent."
